Multi-Family Zoning Requirements for MBTA Communities
In 2020, the state legislature enacted changes to make it easier to create more housing across the region. New provisions require MBTA-served communities to adopt zoning to permit multi-family housing in Sec. 3A of M.G.L. c. 40A. The State Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) issued final guidelines for communities to comply.
The Town of Westborough is classified as a Commuter Rail Community, meaning there is at least one commuter rail station within the town boundaries. Westborough must then comply with the Unit Capacity, Land Area, Density, and Percentage of Units and Land within the Transit Area requirements.
On December 5, 2023 at 7:00PM, the Planning Department will be holding public information sessions regarding the proposed zoning amendment.
Location: Forbes Municipal Building, Great Hall, 45 East Main Street, Westborough
