Services

There are a wide variety of services available through the Senior Center designed to provide assistance to you and your family.

  • Home delivered meals are available five days a week. A hot, nutritionally balanced meal is delivered each day at noontime. Meals are provided through the Springwell Home Delivered Meals Program (aka Meals on Wheels). Contact them at 617-926-4100 or email Springwell Home Delivered Meals Program, or call the Meal Site Director at the Senior Center.
  • KeyLock Box available. You can have a secure KeyLock Box installed outside your home so that local emergency personnel can get to you if you have an emergency and can't get to your door. It is also helpful if you have a LifeLine system if you push the button and can't get to the door. The cost for the box is currently $60 and it can be ordered through the Senior Center. We will install the box, free of charge, by our Handyman. These boxes are similar to the ones that businesses use and are equally secure. It may give you and your family peace of mind knowing that emergency personnel can get to you without causing damage to your doors. Contact the Senior Center for more information or to order a box.
  • Westborough's Public Health Nurse is available at the Senior Center one day each week to assist you with health-related issues. The Nurse can take your blood pressure, check your weight, height and blood sugar level, as well as assist with medication, medical appointments and prescription medications. There is no charge to see the Nurse. Please call the Senior Center to check on the day they are available.
  • A Homemaker is available through the Senior Center for short term placement in your home during a recuperation period, or if you are waiting for other services to begin. The Homemaker does light housekeeping. They cannot do heavy chore work, yard work or personal care. Call the Senior Center to see if this service is appropriate for you and if there is availability.
  • Springwell in Marlborough also provides a wide range of services to help you stay at home. Services are available on a sliding fee basis. Call 617-926-4100 or visit springwell.com for more information.
  • The Handyman is available one day a week to assist with small jobs in your home. He can install window air conditioners, pull down storm windows, hang pictures, set up video and telephone equipment, install bathroom grab bars and turn your mattress. There is no charge, but you are responsible for any supplies that are needed to do the job.
  • SHINE is a program that provides Volunteer Counselors to assist elders and their families with health insurance issues. SHINE is funded through the Executive Office of Elder Affairs and does not sell or promote any particular insurance product. A counselor is available, by appointment, at the Senior Center. There is no charge and transportation is available for appointments.
  • Outreach staff are available for home visits and office consultations to assist you and your family in maneuvering the complex issues of aging. Information, resources, and referrals can be provided for you through Outreach. Call the Senior Center for information.
  • Fuel Assistance is available from November 1 to April 30 each year from SMOC's Low Income Energy Assistance Program. Application packets and instructions can be obtained from the Senior Center after November 1. Additional assistance is sometimes available for those in need through local community agencies.
  • Durable Medical Equipment, such as walkers, canes, wheelchairs, shower seats, etc. can be borrowed from the Senior Center at no charge. If there is a piece of equipment that we do not have on hand or is too large for us to store, we can put you in touch with the local Siloam Lodge of Masons. The Masons have a large supply of equipment and can make arrangements with you for delivery or pick-up.
  • Alzheimer's Alert is a local program used by the Senior Center and the Westborough Police Department to identify residents with memory impairment who may wander from their home and become lost or confused. Please call the Senior Center for additional information regarding this program.
  • The Senior Center also has access to legal and income tax assistance for senior citizens at little or no cost. Call the Senior Center for additional information.
  • Batteries for smoke/fire detectors. Battery Exchange for household smoke and carbon monoxide detectors is available each November. This program is co-sponsored by the Senior Center and the Westborough Fire Department. Call the Senior Center for more details or to sign up.
  • Replacement space heater. Do you have an old (ancient?) space heater? Is it being held together with electrical tape and bungee cords? If so, we would love to replace it with a new, safe, energy-efficient one at no cost. You must have an old one to trade for the new one! Please call the Senior Center for more information. Inventory is limited so don't delay.
  • Hearing Screening - Are you missing a lot of the conversation? Finding that you're turning the TV up louder every time it goes on? Maybe it is time to get your hearing checked! Professional Hearing Healthcare offers Hearing Screenings on the second Wednesday of each month, by appointment. Check the calendar for this month's availability. Call the Senior Center to schedule an appointment if you finally think it's time…or if somebody else is telling you!! There is no charge, and you are under no obligation.
  • The Senior Center is a host site for the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles RMV Near Me program. A trained volunteer can help you with some RMV business so that you are able to avoid some of the wait time at the Registry. Check the calendar in the Senior Scene newsletter for dates and times. We can help with:
    • License renewals (for drivers under age 75)
    • Vehicle registration renewals
    • Change of address
    • Duplicate license or registration
    • Reporting lost or stolen disability placard and how to replace it
    • Acquiring a Massachusetts ID card (non-driving)

For your appointment, please bring your license, ID, Permit number, Social Security number, name as it appears on the SS card, date of birth, and email address if you have one. There are additional documents required if you are applying for a Real ID. All information is kept confidential.
