Marriage Certificate

A Marriage Certificate is on file only in the community in which the couple filed their Marriage Intentions. Even if you did not file your Marriage Intentions in Westborough, but were living or married in Westborough, we will NOT have a copy. You must request a copy from the city or town you filed your Marriage Intentions in. A copy of the Marriage License is also on file with the Department of Public Health Office of Vital Records in Boston: 617-740-2600 (if you cannot remember where you filed). 

You may apply for a marriage license in any City or Town Clerk’s Office in the State. The license can only be used in the State of Massachusetts. The record will always remain in the Town or city in which you filed. A couple applying for a Marriage License, must appear together when filing in the Town Clerk’s Office. The license if valid for 60 days from the date of filing. The marriage cannot take place less than 3 days prior to the filing. If you wish to be married sooner, you would need to receive A Marriage Without Delay from the District Court.

The Town clerk is a Justice of the Peace. Please contact our office should you need an officiant for your wedding.

Birth Certificate

A Birth Certificate is on file in the city or town in which the child was born and the city or town in which the parents recorded living at the time of the child’s birth. The record is also on file with the Department of Public Health Office of Vital Records in Boston. To Order a Birth Certificate from the Town of Westborough, the child must have been born in Westborough or the parents recorded living in Westborough at the time of birth.

Death Certificate

A Death Certificate is on file in the city or town in which the decedent was recorded as living and the city or town in which the decedent passed away. To order a Death Certificate from the Town of Westborough, the decedent must have been registered as living in the Town of Westborough or have passed away in the Town of Westborough. The record is also on file with the Department of Public Health Office of Vital Records in Boston.

Certified copies of all vital records (birth, death or marriage) are $10 per copy. You may purchase a certified copy on-line with a credit card (click here); or come to the Town Hall and request a copy in person or mail a check to Town Clerk, 34 West Main Street, Westborough, MA 01581; check made payable: to The Town of Westborough. Once payment is received the certificate(s) will be mailed to you.
