The Senior Center offers several programs for residents in conjunction with the Westborough Fire Department and Westborough Police Department. Each year, in November, we sponsor "Project Alarm" to change the batteries in your household smoke detectors and make sure they are still working properly. The also check and install carbon monoxide detectors. We also offer residential lock boxes so that emergency personnel can get into your home if you are not able to answer the door. There is a fee for the box and we install them for you. Additionally, twice a year, in April and October, we sponsor a document shredding day at the Senior Center. The Fire and Police are also there to collect unused or out of date medications and used sharps (in approved containers). There is no charge and no limit on how much paper you can bring. Check the Westborough Senior Scene for dates and more information.
There are several opportunities for you to Volunteer at the Senior Center. There is a need for out of town medical drivers, meals on wheels deliverers, caregiver dinner deliverers, grocery shoppers, helping with the newsletter, picking up prescriptions and helping with programs and events at the Senior Center. A CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) is required of all new Volunteers. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at the Senior Center for more information and an application.
SHINE stands for Serving Health Insurance Needs of Everyone. It is a federal/state program for any Medicare enrollee that needs assistance with any aspect of their health insurance coverage. We have two trained SHINE Counselors and there are appointment hours every week. If you are thinking about retiring and are not sure what your coverage will look like, you should come for an appointment. If your policy or situation has changed, they can help. If you need to add more coverage or find a less expensive plan, you need to call the Senior Center at 508-366-3000 to schedule an appointment. There is no charge and confidentiality is strictly enforced. Transportation is available.
Yes. We work with the Siloam Lodge of Masons to provide free durable medical equipment for any one in need. We usually have a supply of walkers, commodes, shower chairs, canes and crutches. Please call the Senior Center before you come in to make sure we have what you are looking for. We do not accept or loan out hospital beds or mattresses.
The Town of Westborough determined the age to be a Senior is 60. However, we welcome any resident to join us if they choose to. We have had several under 60 take some of our exercise classes to help with physical therapy. Generally, all classes cost $5 and the calendar can be found in the monthly newsletter, the Westborough Senior Scene, or the Town of Westborough website.
The Senior Center Mini-bus is on the road Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. Currently, the Mini-bus provides rides in-town for doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, hairdressers and barber appointments, activities and programs at the Senior Center and other shopping or errands. Reservations must be made by noon the day before you need the ride. Cost for the Mini-bus is $1 each way. Multi-ride punch cards can be purchased from the drivers or at the Senior Center.
Transportation from a Volunteer for an out-of-town medical appointment must be made at least three days prior to your appointment. Our Volunteers go to Worcester, Framingham, Marlborough, Shrewsbury, Northborough and Milford. There is no charge but you are responsible for any parking fees at the facility.
