1. How do I report a broken fire hydrant?

All issues and concerns with fire hydrants around town should be reported to police and fire dispatch and they will make the proper notifications. They can be reached at 508-475-4800.

3. Why do I need a smoke alarm inspection when I sell my house?

According to Massachusetts law when a home or residence is sold it must be equipped with working smoke alarms. For assistance with where to place them or to schedule a smoke inspection please reach out to the fire prevention department for further assistance.

4. Why does the fire engine respond to medical emergency calls?

The fire department units are dispatched based on the potential severity of the call. Often the fire engine crew responds to assists the ambulance with things like lifting and moving patients as well as providing additional support and patient care. They will also respond to provide a safe area for the ambulance crew to work depending on the location of the call.

5. Why do firetrucks park in the road blocking traffic when on an emergency call?

Fire trucks often park in the travel lanes of the road to provide motorists with advanced warning to slow down. They also do this to position the fire apparatus on an angle providing a safe area Infront of them for fire department personnel to work on the scene with an added level of protection from passing motorists.
